GST/HST and PST

GST/HST and PST on wholesale food orders, worked out on every order

Tell Supligo which taxes you are registered for, once. Every order is taxed by what is in it and the province it is delivered to — and your customer sees the full total before they place it.

  1. What you are registered for

At setup, choose the taxes you collect: GST/HST, and PST, RST or QST where you are registered for them.

  2. Each province’s rates

Supligo works from dated tables of every province’s rates — you do not type them in.

  3. Each product’s class

Basic groceries, snacks, soft drinks, supplies and more — with a suggestion where the product’s name points to one.

  4. You confirm it

You see what every product is charged in each province you deliver to, and confirm it before customers can order.

On every order

Taxed by what is in it, and where it goes

Each order is priced on our server for its delivery address, so a customer with locations in two provinces is taxed correctly at each. How a delivery charge is taxed depends on what is delivered with it, so ask your accountant about yours.

Questions about sales tax

Does Supligo file or pay my sales tax?

No. Supligo works out the tax on each order from what you set and shows it on the order and its summary. Filing and paying it stays with you and your accountant.

Do I type in each province’s rates?

No. Supligo works from dated tables of every province’s rates. You choose the taxes you are registered for, and every order uses the rates of the province it is delivered to.

Is wholesale food taxed?

Most basic groceries are zero-rated, while snacks, candy, soft drinks and supplies such as cleaning products are taxable. The rules for some foods are detailed, so you set a class for each product — Supligo suggests one where the name points to it — and you confirm it. This is not tax advice.

What does my customer see?

A tax line and the full total — including estimates for items sold by weight — before they place the order, and the final tax on the order summary.
