VAT

VAT on wholesale food orders, worked out on every line

Give each product its VAT class, once. Every order shows its VAT line by line — zero-rated food and standard-rated crisps or soft drinks together — and your customer sees the full total before they place it.

Set it up once, check it once

  1. Each product’s VAT class

Standard, reduced, zero-rated or exempt — with a suggestion where the product’s name points to one.

  2. The rates

Supligo keeps the UK’s VAT rates — you do not type them in.

  3. You confirm it

You see what every product is charged, and confirm it before customers can order.

On every order

VAT by what is in the order, line by line

Each order is priced on our server, so the VAT your customer sees before ordering is the VAT on the summary you see. How a delivery charge is treated for VAT depends on what is delivered with it, so ask your accountant about yours.

  • Zero-rated food stays zero-rated
  • Crisps, confectionery and soft drinks at the standard rate

Questions about VAT

Does Supligo file or pay my VAT?

No. Supligo works out the tax on each order from what you set and shows it on the order and its summary. Filing and paying it stays with you and your accountant.

Do I type in the VAT rates?

No. Supligo keeps the UK’s VAT rates. You choose each product’s class — standard, reduced, zero-rated or exempt — and every line shows its rate.

Is wholesale food zero-rated?

Most food is, but crisps, confectionery, soft drinks and hot food are standard-rated, and so are supplies such as cleaning products. You set a VAT class for each product — Supligo suggests one where the name points to it — and you confirm it. This is not tax advice.

What does my customer see?

A tax line and the full total — including estimates for items sold by weight — before they place the order, and the final tax on the order summary.
