Sales tax

Sales tax on wholesale food orders, worked out on every order

Tell Supligo where you collect sales tax, once. Every order is taxed by what is in it and where it is delivered — and your customer sees the full total before they place it.

On every order

Taxed by what is in it, and where it goes

Each order is priced on our server for its delivery address, so a customer with two locations is taxed correctly at each. The delivery fee is taxed when taxable goods are delivered with it.

  • Tax only on deliveries into the states where you collect
  • Basic food and exempt items stay untaxed
  • A customer’s exemption or resale certificate respected, state by state

In each country we serve

  • United States

Your permit states and one combined rate for each, ten product classes, and customer exemption certificates.

  • Canada

GST/HST and PST, RST or QST by the province of delivery, from dated tables — only the taxes you are registered for.

  • United Kingdom

VAT by product class — standard, reduced, zero or exempt — with the rate shown on every line.

Questions about sales tax

Does Supligo file or pay my sales tax?

No. Supligo works out the tax on each order from what you set and shows it on the order and its summary. Filing and paying it stays with you and your accountant.

Does Supligo look up rates by ZIP code?

Not today. In the US you enter one combined rate for each state where you collect. If your rates differ a lot between the places you deliver to, ask your accountant which rate to use.

Is wholesale food taxed?

Often not: in most states basic food — and goods bought for resale with a valid certificate — is exempt, while items like packaging or supplies may be taxed. The rules differ by state, so Supligo suggests a class for each product and you confirm it. This is not tax advice.

What does my customer see?

A tax line and the full total — including estimates for items sold by weight — before they place the order, and the final tax on the order summary.
